Patrick Picklebottom and the Penny Book

DESCRIPTION

Video games and electronics are fun....but is there anything better or more creative than a good book?

Young Patrick Picklebottom gets the surprise of his life when a kind-hearted store owner sells him his favorite book for only one penny:

"Would you like to buy this?" asked an elderly man.
"I'd like to," said Patrick, "but I don't think I can.
I've only one penny, and not one penny more,"
then he hung his head low, and he turned toward the door.
"As it happens," replied the kind-hearted gent,
"This book only costs a single red cent.”

But will he get to read its wondrous stories... or will he be lured away by the flashy apps, video games and other electronics he finds his friends playing with as he heads back home?

Written lyrically with vibrant, colorful illustrations, Patrick Picklebottom and the Penny Book is a story about the magic of books and the love of reading. Without being preachy or putting down gadgets, games and electronics, which are an undeniable and often positive part of modern life, the story instead highlights how a child's imagination and creativity can soar by simply reading a great book.

From the best-selling author of Ricky, the Rock that Couldn't Roll, Tess, the Tin that Wanted to Rock, The Bear and the Fern and The Masterpiece comes a new cast of lovable characters and a story you and your children will cherish for years, and read over and over again.

Combining the spirit of She Silverstein, the heart of Mo Willems, and the rhyme and rhythm of Dr. Seuss, Patrick Picklebottom and the Penny Book is ideal for children ages 3-9 and Pre K-3rd grade.

Without being preachy this book shares an important message about teamwork and individual worth. I first downloaded it when it was free on Kindle, and I loved it so much that I had to get the hardcover version too. It held the attention of all 5 of my kids--the story line, lyrical rhythm, and captivating pictures were perfect.

I have to say thank you to little Tess - she got my two-year-old out of her “I don’t want to go to bed” meltdown. She became instantly engaged with the story and especially enjoyed finding the ladybug on each page. I don’t know who loves it more, my kids or me! Definitely a great message, written beautifully, with engaging illustrations; now we're on to buy Ricky the Rock who Couldn't Roll! A must have for all age levels of kiddos.

Tess is a really sweet book - perfect follow up to the other "Ricky" Rock books. Recommended if your children enjoyed the previous books in the series as a complement. Ideal for young readers in K-2nd, and the perfect book to bring along to school for Mystery Reader day, or as a birthday gift. My kids love all the books.

I love this series and all the books by mr jay. The kids love to read them over and over. I like that they have lessons to learn in each book. The kids also recognize the references made in each book of the other books. Definitely one of the best series i found so far.
